That awkward moment...

... when you think you send a late night ranting text to your husband, only to discover it also went to every member of your family.  Tonight will forever be known as the great cranberry juice debacle.

Saturday was my sister's bridal shower and one of my other sisters was talking about how to avoid a UTI.  I have never had one and never worried about it, but sure enough as soon as I got home I started to worry about it and decided it was time to drink some cranberry juice.  I told my husband I needed to go to the store, and he reminded me we had some whole cranberries in the freezer.  Days passed and I still didn't make anything with the frozen cranberries, so tonight he went to work and I started stewing.

Unfortunately, today was my sister's birthday and (like the good sister I am) I sent a text to Mark and everyone else in my family to remind them to wish her a happy birthday.  Of course while busy stewing over cranberries I failed to notice the long list of names that followed Mark's on the text I sent.  I didn't notice until I started to get many replies almost immediately.  Anger instantly diffused followed by excessive laughter and feelings of awkwardness.

The rant started out strong: "Love, I wish you would have let me go get cranberry juice instead of pushing your frozen cranberry agenda."  Yes, it's his agenda, almost to the level of a conspiracy.  Almost.  Later I acknowledge in the text that he didn't actually stop me, but it didn't matter.  Luckily I didn't include a line about him knowing how lazy I can be about making food at night.  That's one deep dark secret I never want out.  I went on for a while and end it with "I'm not mad, I just thought I should say something so it doesn't continue." Translation, I was mad in the moment but realized how stupid this was by the time I typed everything out but still wanted to send it.

I would like to say I will be more careful with my texts in the future, but it's unlikely.

In case you wonder about anything else, life is great.  Erik is still getting bigger.  Mark still spends inordinate amounts of time at the gym and I still work too much.

One already! (or 13 months.. I'm a little behind)

I think I should retitle my blog to "slow to publish, don't bother checking more than once a month" but that seems a little long.

Erik's first birthday was not quite as we planned. There were great decorations for his Bubble Guppies party (thanks mostly to Erik's bff Tammy), but he was getting some new teeth and not super thrilled with all of the people.  He spent a good amount of his party in his bedroom watching Bubble Guppies on my kindle.
A few stats:
Now at 13 months:
Erik has 10 teeth, including two top molars.
He still loves playing with anything that has wheels.  His favorite toys are a lego tractor and ride-on airplane.
He also loves to play in the dirt.
He now walks a lot more than he crawls.
And he is a super picky eater, surviving mostly off milk, cheerios and crackers (with the occasional applesauce, yogurt or rice).

Mother's day blessing and loss

Life has been great lately.  I have loved spending more time with Erik, even though doing so made me realize I'm not as patient as I thought I was.  Apparently it's really easy to be patient with a baby you only see for a few hours a day.  Last night I stayed up late working on a resume for my cousin.  When I went to bed I realized that I would likely 5 hours of sleep or less because Erik always wakes up early.  I knew it was a little ridiculous but I prayed that he would sleep in a little and that I would feel refreshed when he woke up.  It worked! He slept until 7:19 and although it wasn't even 6 hours, I woke up fully refreshed and feeling great.  It has been an awesome morning! (Erik's mother's day gift to me was to dig up my basil and eat some of the dirt, just what I wanted)

Yesterday was a little rough, we found out that about $20,000 worth of mostly brand new scuba equipment and tools were stolen out of storage.  Mark was obviously quite upset as most of it was purchased at deep discounts because of trade work he did for a shop, so to replace everything will probably cost a quite a bit more than $20,000.  Not a good time as we are draining our savings to the last penny to buy a house and I'm not yet making much at my new job.  It has been an interesting experience for our family.  Let's just hope the home owner's insurance covers the loss (even though it wasn't at our home).

Blog... what blog?

So apparently starting a law firm is a lot of work.  Who knew?  Mark and I have worked so hard on the website and everything else that we needed that I haven't even thought of blogging (or checking blogs) in ages.  Tonight I read through all of my 62 unread blog posts but there are still quite a few to get to of the private blogs.  The only reason I thought of it tonight was because my mom asked me to send her the following video.

Erik's birthday is on Saturday, but my parents will be gone so they gave him his gifts already.   Needless to say, I think they picked out a winner.

Also, we found out today that the bank accepted our offer on the Taylorsville house.  Yes, the one I blogged about months ago.  It has taken a long time but Mark and I both feel good about it.

And now, for the cutest little laugh in the world...

Finally someone appreciates my food

Mark is always on a diet and doesn't seem to appreciate much of what I make, but this little guy LOVES almost everything I make for him.  Case in point, the best green beans EVER.  I slaved over that microwave for a full 9 seconds to get them just right.  Enjoy...

As an added bonus, a sneak peak of Erik's favorite past time.  We should probably have cleaned up before filming, but whatevs.  He does this for at least 30 minutes each day (not all at the same time).

It's been a good week.  We have been very busy but we're excited for all of the changes we have coming up. I'll post them as soon as we have a confirmation.

Ninja

Mark said Erik was wearing his Ninja hood all day, then he snapped a picture to show me just how stealth the little man can be.

In other news, we put an offer on a home tonight.  We weren't really looking, but one thing lead to another and it all happened in a day.  For real.  It is a short sale fixer-upper that my friend's grandpa built in 1919 and his sister destroyed after the grandpa died. My friend and I were chatting at work and he said we should look at it, I called the agent at 4 and he said he was going out of town tomorrow so we met him at 6 to check it out and told him to draft the paperwork by 7. Now we need to see if the bank will accept, but it would be a fun little project.  Too bad Paul and Erin (Mark's brother) just moved to the Caribbean because Mark said it's less than a mile from their old place.

If we get it, I will definitely post some pictures on the blog.  It's only been on the market for a couple of days so there aren't any I could find online.
